This is a week of shifts. Just in the past few days, Mercury has entered Leo and Venus has moved into Cancer. Today at 1:07 PM PST, the Sun joined its messenger in Leo.
Our communications shift from inward—the cultivation of a dark fertility— to meeting the public sphere. Ari Felix has these wise words on the ingress:
it would be cool if more practitioners were honest with themselves about wanting the feeling a musician gets when they descend into a crowd to be touched by people who are electrified by their craft, rather than trying to get that need met through the martyrdom of porous boundaries.
Our connections, on the other hand, are picking up where Mercury in Cancer left off. We have taken in new inspiration and pleasures from Venus’s lively time in Gemini, decided which ones to keep and which to let go, and now, in Cancer, we are asked to get intimate with what draws us in. Though Venus is not exalted or at home in Cancer, it does rule the first decan of the sign and has dignity by triplicity, so we may be more resourced in our loving lately.
Austin Coppock tells us that Venus in Cancer I carries the imprint of past nurturing relationships into future connections. Talismanically, this placement is good for love magic, but, more specifically, “it facilitates a swift process of deep enmeshment”.
Coppock cautions against jumping into new relationships too quickly under this transit or if you have this natally.
Would is surprise you that Khloe Kardashian has her Sun in this decan? These natives’ “ability to give deeply of themselves is a rare talent, but they must be careful in selecting what and to whom they offer their energies”.
Sound familiar??
Clown Watch 2022: Zodiacal Releasing Edition
Perhaps because her name is one letter off from mine, but I have always felt a perhaps unwarranted amount of sympathy for Khloe Kardashian.
To keep coming back?? To the same man who sows his wild oats regardless of the unborn child in your uterus??? And then again with the surrogate baby cooking???? I can only wonder what goes on in his mind, much less what goes on between them to warrant his many, many chances.
I will save those ponderings for the Adepts. For now, I can only think of using Zodiacal Releasing from Khloe’s Lot of Eros to see if the astrology aligns with and sheds light on the heavily-documented events of her and Tristan’s entanglement.
Before I get started: I try to be considerate when using astrology to work through famous people’s lives. I want to be sensitive and not intrusive when dealing with difficult topics and life experiences. The Kardashians, I believe, by virtue of their constant public attention, are fair game for analysis. Nonetheless, I plan on treating Khloe with respect and consideration as best I can (though have no problem dunking on the wandering clown).
Zodiacal Releasing is a unique astrological predictive technique because it divides your life into stories; there are decades-long “books” we are living through and within that, chapters, pages and paragraphs that make up your narrative. We may be living an action-adventure for the first twenty years of our life, but take a detour into romance or thriller for a few years, or even just a few weeks. ZR, as it’s often calls, helps us illuminate the stories of our lives that are happening on many levels.
Now someone with a stronger Mercury than I would take the time to explain how you calculate ZR but suffice to say it is related to our lots, planetary placements, and angles.1 The malefics (Mars and Saturn) and the benefics (Venus and Jupiter) determine which periods are, subjectively, positive or negative. Of the three modes (fixed, cardinal, mutable), the ones containing the malefics are the most difficult and the ones containing the benefics are the most beneficial. Let’s look at Khloe’s to understand:
Khloe’s chart makes it easy; her benefics (Venus and Jupiter) oppose each other in cardinal signs while her malefics are conjoined in Scorpio, a fixed sign. We know that whenever the fixed signs are activated, she is probably having a hard time, while cardinal signs show subjectively beneficial events occurring.
Now let’s look at her ZR from the Lot of Eros, the lot which determines, among other things, the trajectory of our relationships.
Now from Level 1, which sets up her current overarching story, she is in a Scorpio period from 2012 until 2026, the sign where both her malefics reside. This placement tells us that her relationship life for this period will be one marked by hardship and conflict. Though productive things can still happen here, it may not be comfortable to experience. Being in the 10th house, this hardship will be very public and she must somehow integrate it into her image.
Tristan and Khloe were first spotted together in late August/early September 2016, when Khloe was in a Scorpio/Aquarius/Aquarius period. When the news broke of their potential dating on September 2nd, she was also in a L4 Scorpio period. Not only was Kardashian in a totally Fixed period when she first started dating Tristan, she was in a period totally ruled by malefics (note to also pay attention to which planets are activated by rulership). This relationship is already setting itself up to be difficult and also extremely public, though it may not have seemed that way at first.
In April 2018, we see the first taste of what is to become a pattern in their relationship. On April 11th, TMZ shares a video of Thompson kissing several woman at a nightclub a day before Khloe gives birth to their child. In ZR, she is in a Scorpio-Scorpio-Libra-Aquarius period, another malefic and fixed-heavy time. The presence of Libra is a silver lining of sorts; though she is in a shitty chapter of a shitty stage of her life, she has the silver lining of her daughter, True, being born in the midst of the bullshit.
In late 2021, months after they’ve reconciled for the nth time, Kardashian finds out, via leaked court documents, that Thompson is the father of another woman’s child. On the day the news broke, Khloe was in a Scorpio-Gemini-Gemini-Aquarius period. While not as seemingly malefic because of the two mutable periods, Mercury, Gemini’s ruler, points to big announcements happening during this time. What’s more, Khloe had gotten back with Tristan in October and gone through with surrogacy using Thompson’s sperm in November, putting her in an L2 Taurus period, adding to the fixed pile-on.
The most recent scandal compounds this pattern. On July 13th, news of Khloe and Tristan’s new baby broke, adding another news cycle of humiliation for the reality TV star. She also happened to be in a Scorpio-Gemini-Scorpio-Aquarius period. It’s worth noting that her Mercury rules the 8th house of loss and anguish, so no wonder it’s included in this latest unfortunate sequence.
Today Kardashian enters an L4 Taurus period, and she will be in an L4 Leo period on August 2nd; only time will tell if Tristan comes up with a new way to embarrass Khloe on those dates.
But, hey, there’s always plenty of bright sides. In July of next year, Khloe enters an L2 Cancer period, the sign where her Venus (her benefic of sect) lies. Perhaps she will rid herself of That Man by then (minus the co-parenting of course).
I leave you with this Charles Bernstein’s poem, “Twelve-Year Universal Horoscope”. You can read the full thing here, but here is his entry for Leo’s 2022 horoscope:

Reach out to long-estranged family members to say life is better without you. Don’t back away from regrets. Outer Andromeda is fragmenting into deep time shallows: Time to stop the ambivalence and say no. Midmonth is best time for buying short but avoid other financial transactions. Look over your back before making sudden move. Avoid disco. Linger in crinoline. Seek wool products and avoid rayon. Preferred alcohol: Pisco (sour).
Until next week loves 💖
