Nearly all my planets are in Venus-ruled Libra, yet my actual Venus in Virgo (and also in the 12th house!), so quite a bit of detriment there. Yet she's a lifelong teacher. I can see the times I've worn beauty as armor, as you say, and times when all I want to do is delight in the beauty around me.
