This essay is a personal one. It explores my personal experience working with the fixed star Sirius, alpha star of Canis Major and brightest star in the sky, found at 14º Cancer. Drawing from the wisdom and ritual provided in my Stars of Love lecture, I began my own relationship with this amorous star with the intention of testing out and proving the magic for myself.
If you have been following me for any extended period of time, you know how important the fixed stars are to me and my practice. Though they are often neglected in the face of the planets, the constellations that make up our sky also elucidate our inner purpose, journey, and soul. While the planets are more material, and thus bogged down by the vagaries of earthly life, plus the natal condition of your planets, the stars help us rise above. The stars, like a fairy godmother that reveals our otherworldly powers, reminds us of our own magic. They may take longer to answer, but they hit right to the heart of our issues and can shape things immeasurably. I wrote this essay to prove their power to you.
The proof is undeniable, folks. Fixed star magic works, and loudly at that. As this essay gets pretty vulnerable, I am keeping it behind a paywall. But please know that, whether your read this or not, stellar magic works. Sirius, in particular, is a powerful star for getting into your body, getting in touch with your animal self and feeling pleasure.

This essay is part of a larger Venus retrograde series exploring all forms of love and pleasure magic. I find Venus rx periods to be perfect to go inward and focus on our spiritual abilities, especially when outward love can be more complicated or harder to come by right now. I understand dogs. I was afraid of them at first but I also think I was a little afraid of myself. Then my family got one before I entered second grade and the animal became an unending source of good in my life, much earlier than when I felt the same about my own body. With Sierra, the love was simple. I would gently press on her stomach until she let out a groan, like a bellows, and rest my head on her ribs to hear her breathe. Now, my current dog, Cassie, wraps her paw tightly around my calf while she growls in excitement, rope dangling from her mouth. When I sing-scream punk songs at her she starts jumping on me and wagging her tail. I can be a little playful, a little rough, with dogs, especially big ones, which is a relief because my love tends to be rough. “Cute aggression,” an ex called it; I immediately took to the phrase. Even when I’m intense I’m cute! I am often intense. For a while, I wish I wasn’t.
