Embodying Jupiter Part II
This newsletter is part of a series on the magical-creative properties of the planets, as well as how to begin embodying them yourself.
So much of astrological study nowadays is confined to book learning but my understanding of the planets improved dramatically when I began engaging them directly. By doing this, I could conjure feelings, deeply-impressed images and great meaning behind the words I used.
This newsletter offers you a portal to have your own connection to Jupiter. It’s one thing to say Jupiter is about abundance or order but it’s another to be waking up each morning to pray or renewing your vows and think “Jupiter" would like this too”.
If you want help connecting to your unique Jupiter, and the rest of yourself through the stars, my books are currently open! My readings are meant to lift you up, to secure you against difficulty and remind you that there is always space, creativity, play. Book now to remember your place in the cosmos.
This writing is intentionally not technical and meant to be understood even by those who have not studied astrology but want to connect more deeply to their world and themselves. Remember: these planets all describe fundamental parts of us. Whether you try to or not, you embody Jupiter everyday. By learning what functions and activities with which Jupiter corresponds, you learn more about yourself and your life, with nothing added but attention.
By reaching this felt understanding of Jupiter (and the other planets), I believe we are also able to be better magicians and artists— two categories whose differences are slowly shrinking in my eyes. Do we not need the same centeredness and momentum to create a piece of art as we do to create a spell or gaze into the future? Aren’t we vessels for something beyond our small self in both? This essay also delves into where in your creative-spiritual practice a dose of Jupiter could serve you well.

Abundance
In my last Jupiter essay, I discussed the relationship between the Greater Benefic and order. Being attuned to law, civic occupations, as well as higher learning and religion, Jupiter relates to structures that guide and shape our lives and provide a firm, stable foundation upon which we can expand. Whenever we forego the immediately easier route for what aligns with our principles or agree to pray each day in alignment with our spiritual beliefs, we are engaging in the joyful ordering of Jupiter.
But the point of these structures is not the simply hem one in or restrict one’s options; the ordering of Jupiter is to provide us with a foundation to truly partake in abundance without being trapped by greed and selfishness. Abu Ma’shar associates her with “wealth of good nature, wealth that multiplies, the trappings of wealth, profit or increase, sharing of wealth, fortune [not to be confused with luck]]…charity…gift-giving, generosity, hospitality,” as well as wealthy adornments and abundance.1 These significations stem from the naturally effluvient nature of this massive planet. Jupiter is the kid on the playground who always has extra cookies to share with the class. The wealth of Jupiter is not a hoarded pile of coins saved only for the few; it flows to all, and helps build public buildings and programs that uplift the whole community. The New Deal, which employed down-on-their luck Americans during the Great Depression through infrastructure, art and agriculture is a great example of what Jupiterian wealth looks like in action. In the words of Dr. Ali Olomi, “Abundance means that your society is thriving”.2 Cornelius Agrippa calls Jupiter “lord of wealth and wisdom,” meaning the two were utilized hand-in-hand, especially when Jupiter holds the purse strings.3 What good is wealth if squandered?
